For the price ($10) a very tasty wine and a better buy than its stable mate the Cab Private Reserve. It’s a clear, bright, medium depth ruby-violet colored wine. There doesn’t seem to be much in the nose department, but there is plenty of berry notes on the palette. There’s some low acidity, moderate tannins, a good balance and a medium finish. This seemed to give it a more rounded taste. Better for sipping than dinner. Grade: B+ Price: $10 Messina Hof Barrel Reserve |
