Wine Review

Metrokane Vertical Rabbit Wine Opener

You remember in "A Christmas Story" how all Ralphie wanted was a Red Ryder BB gun? (The one with a compass in the stock and that thing that tells time.) When I first saw this in the stores, it was all I really wanted for Christmas. And I have to say it has not disappointed me.

DrySack NV Sherry (medium) Spain

A sherry that falls somewhere in dryness between Alfonso Oloroso Seco (a very dry one) and the Solara 1847 Oloroso Dulce (rather sweet). With this wine leaning heavily toward the Alfonso, no matter what the label says.

Borgo SanLeo NV Prosecco (Brut) Italy

A recommendation from guy at the wino, err, liquor store I sometimes frequent. Not a bad effort, if a trifle sweet for me, in spite of the Brut word on the label.

AutoMoto 2006 Chardonnay California

As far as the AutoMoto brand is concerned, perhaps the worst of the rest. A not very drinkable Chard. No real off notes but a very bland attempt. Their Cab is probably their best effort IMHO.

Vino Borgia 2008 Grenache Spain

It tastes good. I can see whiling away an afternoon and a bottle at the same time or just having a glass with a hearty lunch. And I believe Jorge Ordonez is becoming my personal hero, as he selects some of the best cheap wines I know...
